Friends of the Disabled Society (FDS) is a collaboration of individuals with a wide variety of skills and talents. Disabled Friends with better motor-skills are taught and given the opportunity to create handicrafts like the Hama Plastic Beaded Bookmarks, Mosaic Art Frames and jewellery, while others learn entrepreneurship as they package, market and interact with customers at PaTH Market.
With Cerebral Palsy and Myopia, a regular office job may be impossible for FDS member Mary Low. Since PaTH, Mary discovered her real interest–talking and selling to customers. She even feedbacks “what the customer wants” to her artistic colleagues such as Mosaic Landscape Artist Michael Cheong, continually refining FDS’ range of products. “Every challenge is a platform for you to grow,” Mary says. “Everyone has the same problems–financially, emotionally. There will be good times and bad times. I won’t give up.” At FDS, the disabled are on par with able people!
