For our 1st panel discussion, Technology for Common Good, we are honoured to have with us Ms Jacqueline Poh, Deputy Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Strategy Group, Mr Ang Boon Peng, Vice-president (Strategic Collaboration), Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City Investment and Development Co., Ltd, China, Mr.C.K. Fong, Senior Director, Customer Access, Salesforce, Mr Andy Sim, Director, Digital Innovation, National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) as our panellists, and Ms Wong Pei Shan, Private Equity Portfolio Manager, Shaw Kwei & Partners, Board of Director, Social Innovation Park, as our moderator.
This panel discusses the pressing need to leverage technology to unlock solutions for some of the pressing social challenges for the greater good of the public as we enter a new stage of development and growth accelerated by the fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). We are left with a thought-provoking question: Is technology an enabler or a catch-up game? Do we use technology as an enabler to solve our problems and get to where we want? Or are we driven and disrupted by technology?
For our 2nd panel discussion, Mindful Leadership for Common Good, we are honoured to have with us Dr Ang Hak Seng, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, Dr Ong Seh Hong, Former Member of Parliament, Senior Consultant, Psychological Medicine, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Mr Yeo Whee Jim, Senior Director, Institute of Governance and Policy, Civil Service College, Dr Andy H.Y. Ho, Assistant Professor of Psychology, School of Social Sciences, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) & Deputy Director, Centre for Population Health Sciences (CePHaS), as our panellists, and Ms Carmen Teo, Founder & Director Mindful Insights, as our moderator.
This panel discusses how to cultivate mindfulness in leaders who can see through the mass and get to the essence of creating a more inclusive, sustainable and better world amidst the complexity and challenges of technology advancement. In the light of today’s world, there are three huge problems – 1. Distraction, 2. Drift, 3. Mind-Busyness. A mindful leader has great clarity of purpose and is intentional in what he/she does. The beauty of mindfulness is that you are not just being aware of yourself, but your awareness of people and the environment increases as well. Empathy and compassion play a huge role. How can we as leaders, advocate a sustainable program that promotes mindful leadership rather than a mindless rat race?
A step forward is perhaps to let our head and heart connect. Here’s an honest assessment: What do we want? Where are we headed to?

Summing up, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Finance, Heng Swee Keat, shared how good governance is critical to the development of every country. Ultimately, each governor needs to develop its own model well suited for its country. While every country is a work in progress, we can do our part by learning from one another and sharing ideas as we strive towards building an inclusive sustainable and better world – not just for ourselves but for future generations.
